Physical Traits

Herius is a remarkably tall human, likely to look down on most. He is still buff and muscled from his military heyday, sporting with that an uncanny knack for moving and fighting in plate armour. Like a second skin, you'd rarely see him out of it. His right eye, and eyelid, is completely gone, with blade-mark scars along the rim - as such, he's almost always seen wearing an eyepatch. His hair is almost entirely grey with a few loose strands clinging to light brown, but not yet balding. It hangs loose and somewhat unkempt.

However, Herius is -- being fifty-six years old -- beginning to feel the weight of age. His stamina and muscle mass is depleting swiftly as nature saps at his strength. For now, he is fit and able. In the future, however...

Background

Born to a Knight-Champion in the Stormwind Army and a skilled seamstress based in Lakeshire, Herius Alexander Darian came from a long line of military officers. As such, his father insisted - against his mother's will - that he be taken to a strict military academy in the peaks of Redridge. There, he was educated in the arts of combat with weaponry and hand to hand, and how to be a good military tactician. He graduated with flying colours, earning special merit in swordsmanship, gun marksmanship, and hand to hand combat. But by the time he had finished, his father had been killed and his mother died shortly after he returned. Saddened, Herius immediately followed his father's wishes and signed up.

At the age of sixteen, a fresh graduate, the young and eager Herius was placed right into a company of cavalry; the 32nd Cavalry of the Stormwind Military. There, he served for over thirty years, travelling far and wide across the globe. He fought in the first, second and third wars, accompanying the legendary 7th legion to Hyjal and the remnants of the Lordaeron army against the scourge. Through victory and defeat, Herius and his comrades held strong. As time passed, Herius rose through the ranks, eventually taking place as Knight-Captain, officer of the company.

Finally becoming too old to serve in full-on combat, the middle-aged Herius was placed - with much resistance from both himself and his men - on guard and instructor duty in quiet Theramore. He killed a grand total of twelve horde infiltrators there, whose blood now stains the twelve tallies on his somewhat-lesser-used shield. Herius was far from happy, wishing to return to the front lines.

With King Varian Wrynn's return and subsequent departure for Northrend, the state of Stormwind was absolutely dire. With no organized guard force and the military in the North, the nobles were forced to act. Herius returned to his home for the first time in almost forty years and was appointed Captain of the Stormwind Guard.

One year later, he retired, his wife Shanura Darian taking over the Captaincy. This was not as good of a move as initially expected, as Shanura was replaced by Gladrien four months later and is currently in hiding or dead.

Family Background

The Darian Family is a long line of military men, the majority of which being officers. The earliest traceable relative of Herius is his grandfather, Grand Marshal Herius Darian (thus making Herius actually Herius Darian the Second, but this is un-used) who accompanied an alliance expedition to Kalimdor, which ultimately lost contact and never returned. He is missing and presumed dead.

Criminal Record

Court martialled for murdering an officer. Pardoned and commended after it came to light that said officer was harbouring an orc.

Personal Notes

Herius is, as seems to be common with people in his occupational position, somewhat temperamental and prone to bouts of anger. He is somewhat over-violent, having no qualms over beating prisoners or even his own men should they disobey an order or some such malpractice. Often ultra-apathetic, Herius doesn't even seem to bat an eyelid when performing executions or extended lashings. This is, however, a thinly-veiled cover for what appears to be growing mental problems stemming from post-traumatic stress disorder. But, at present, he is sane and fit for his job, if a little aged.

Following Ramilias' descent into the unknown, Herius and Shanura became close. Eventually, they confessed their love for one another and married on the 26th of August, 2010. This is widely said to be Herius' only public show of compassion since he became Captain of the Guard, leading to further allegations of his worsening post-traumatic stress disorder. Regardless, they were happily married until April 2011, when Shanura's cultist-screwing tendancies were discovered by a lengthy investigation. Herius no longer considers himself married and wishes his ex-wife a swift death.

• Is actually a fairly talented blacksmith, but is too busy to pursue the profession.
