Korbu Willowglean

Appearance

Not unlike other rangers, Korbu is tall and willowy, with strong wiry muscles underlaying his sun-browned skin. His hair is a deep chestnut, appearing black in duller lighting. His eyes, like the eyes of all Sin'dorei, brightly gleam fel-green.

His face seems to have been carved from bronze; his expression is near always serious, and when otherwise, it snaps back to his 'default' expression like lightning.

Personality

Korbu has little in the way of a sense of humour. His serious, hard demeanour has a tendancy to grate on most people, making him rather unpleasant to be around. He is very much devoted to his work, and seems to have difficulty 'shutting off'. Unusually, he only shows his soft side around baby creatures, handling them with great gentleness and obvious love.

Despite his humorless mien, he is a very calm individual, able to simmer through much abuse or hurt before finally putting his foot down. While not much at all can make him laugh, very little can anger him also, and it balances him out a little.

Companions

Thaelgradin

Korbu's beloved falcon. The ranger raised the large bird from when he was naught but a chick, stealing him from his nest. Korbu is now never seen without the great, vicious-looking creature perched on his arm or shoulder. In truth, Thael is quiet-tempered, his own personality reflecting that of his master; if Korbu is stressed, Thael shares his anxiety, and so on. Despite his unnaturally old age (the magicks of Quel'thalas have affected his lifespan and growth, like all creatures living there), Thael is still the Silver Phoenix's fastest messenger, and he is often seen flitting down to a Phoenix, dropping a missive into their hand, and vaulting back into the sky to reunite with Korbu.

Tombrosia

Korbu's ill-tempered wyvern. Specially selected for her dappled brown fur, Tom is able to blend in with most wooded surroundings, making her valuable for scouting work. Like Thael, Korbu hand-reared the large creature when she was a cub, purchasing her from the reputable wyvern-trainers of Orgrimmar. She is intolerant of her kind, allowing only those she has thoroughly proven her status as Alpha to -- mainly, by ripping them to shreds until they submit. As all members of the Phoenix possess wyverns, they each had to go through this 'initiation' process; it is fortunate that none was damaged enough to lose their ability to fly.

Welt

A tiny black snake, often mistaken for a tattoo or cord wrapped around Korbu's neck. It is unknown where Korbu obtained Welt, or why he keeps her around. All that is speculated about her is that many low-profile deaths attributed with Korbu seem to involve a potent snake-venom.

The Silver Phoenix

Forming the small band with two other Farstrider scouts before the destruction of the Sunwell, Korbu led the Phoenix over Azeroth, carrying out the Ranger-General's will as he saw fit. They often banded together with other groups; some far more experienced, some less. The Silver Phoenix never stood out from others of its kin, apart from being (unofficially) named. The three members worked well together through mutual respect and having known each other for years; they grew to specialise in working far from each other, scouting large areas or spying from multiple view points. They were able to do this so effectively, thanks to their keen knowledge of each other (how they would react, where they might place themselves in position to danger, etc) and their ability to utilise Thaelgradin for keeping in near-constant contact with each other.

Their activities were starting to stale when Amphis'baena joined with them; frankly, he didn't help matters. But, thanks to the additional member (who, despite his attitude and relative young age, was extremely experienced in his field of expertise), the Phoenix was able to embark on larger missions to more dangerous places.

Personal Notes

• Korbu is the unofficial leader of the Silver Phoenix. It is through him that the group recieves orders from Brightwing, and the Farstriders. Despite their grandiose name and respectable reputation, they are no different from any other group of rangers working under Halduron, of which there are many.
• Seems to be uncomfortable flying. Dealing with Tombrosia probably doesn't help matters.
• One of the few people that has earned Amphis'baena's respect, before even exchanging words with him. Although the pair butt heads from time to time, they generally work well together.
• Korbu is utterly devoted to his work as a ranger. Very little can sway him from this path; he rarely laughs, always being on watch for danger or planning more efficient ways to hunt or scout. This may confuse many people if he appears to be doing something humorous; more than once he's been seen dancing (thanks to the prodding of the female members of the Phoenix to 'lighten up a little') on the spot, with a look of extreme and serious concentration on his face. He really doesn't know how to have fun.
