Rich, you had an idea for an unofficial forum, did you not?

Revision as of 20:46, 6 July 2010

It is! I'm thinking that soon we can start improving the apearance. Some people have already added pictures of their characters. We can get a picture of every character and of each location, and perhaps even group pictures of each guild, etc.. The title of the site should look better as well.

-Richeron

Indeed. Tables at the characters and guilds. I saw the alphabet list, it's getting better and better!

530

You mean in the character list for example? Putting the horde and the alliance side by side? I think that was an excellent idea. Makes it's use much simpler.

- Richeron

If any of you have something against my trend to format the list pages into tables, tell me

530

Nice to see the page has been growing nicely without me. If anyone finds trolling tell me. I shall investigate and if I find out whodunnit, there shall be blood!

- Richeron

Woot! Go us!

- Lukther

Changed Image Bar

Hopefully We can add played characters to this bar, would have added Rothbane and Delphine but just settled with Aurélie instead. as I didn't just want humans and undead on the bar... ~SpookyBob~

That is brilliant! How did you do it? - Richeron

Photoshop CS. Took a screen shot of the character selection screen. Then cut round the character and stuck it to a background... Am hoping that if everyone manages to get a decent picture of their characters up, then we could have realm pictures up instead of level 0's. Which is what I used. ~SpookyBob~

Ooh. I have a dwarf in the militia! - Richeron

I will add hi to the banner when I get a spare half hour. ~SpookyBob~

Richeron Just sorted out your crest thing.

Tried to sort out the colours for you, don't know if i got it right thou? Its a bit pale but couldn't figure out what else i could have done without losing the detail inside... Have kept the image just in case i can modify it more...

Whitamhallcolour2 ~SpookyBob~

  • *Jaw drops* It may have lost colour, but it looks great! What tools did you use? - Richeron

just used different colours on about 50% opacity and used the blending options to add the detail to it. ~SpookyBob~

Rich

Have I been made a moderator, or something? as I now have a load more extra do hickeys at the top of my screen?. Also People, I'm still waiting for more pictures of characters for the new banner. Best Pictures are taken from the character select screen! I will add a temporary page for people to post there pictures onto. the more the merrier. Please note after a couple of weeks the page will be deleted. ~SpookyBob~

Congratulations! You are indeed a moderator! Or rather a sysop. You deserve it.

Cheers buddy. Thanks will try not abuse my new godly powers. (insert evil laugh here)... Thanks again.. ~SpookyBob~

Rich, im afraid I don't play wow on this server anymore, I would like to thank yourself and all the other RPers who made the realm so great for me. You may wish to take me off Sysop. I will pop back now and then to see how this is progressing. Keep up the good work guys! ~SpookyBob~ AKA Craig Clarke

The wiki avatar was sponsored by moi! Hope you like it!!!

Adding 'Steamwheedle Cartel Wiki' Level 1 Heading

I've not just added this randomly :P It's there for Google to pick up on and influence the result of the google search 'Steamwheedle Cartel Wiki', which still has the old wiki first.

- Etris

Oh, I see. That's a pity, since the old wiki isn't even accessible anymore.

- Richeron

All is well now - first result is wowwiki and then this one. Really 'Steamwheedle Cartel Wiki' ought to be in the title too if a lot of people are searching for it.

- Etris

What the heck's happened to the layout of the main page? It looks horrible.

--Elizabetha 15:52, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

You mean the actual page itself or the things around with the navigation bar and all that?

-- Richeron

That awful yellow line and how the navigation bars have been remade into something silly. That affects the whole page. =P

--Elizabetha 21:49, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I detest it too. It's the wikia skin, and it's pretty lousy. Look for an almost invisible link near the top right corner saying "Return to monobook skin" or something like that. If there is no such thing then follow the following link: [1]

--Richeron

Template?

I really like the Wiki and the way its going. I like how its completetly open to change certain things in a page and not being stuck in a prefab you really need to use for your profile to show up. I did had one idea though that might help make a page look more...well..like WoWWiki's Lore Characters. On the Sporeggar Wiki (my old realm) they give the option to make a table on the right side of the screen. Let me explain by giving a link to the code page there and you see how it looks on the right side of the screen.

http://www.sporeggar.info/Category:Profiles

What do you guys think? I think it looks rather nice and could deliver a better overview of one's character.

Celegil

I think it's a pretty good idea. There is already one character page with such a table: Roudfus (based on one Merwyn used), but I never implemented it on the template because people already have terrible difficulty using basic wiki text. Introducing tables might be too hard for them. But I do think it looks nice.

--Richeron 11:27, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Aye, I have noticed it myself. Over on my old guild on Sporeggar I got lots of questions about how to use the Wiki code. I might copy down Roudfus's table if you decide implementing another template is not an option. Untill then ill patiently wait. :)

--Celegil

I think it might be more interesting if we discuss what we think this table should be like together. What information do you think it should have?

--Richeron 20:10, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I think it should have the following things. These are the same things as displayed on the WoWWiki Character template. I looked at this page as an example: http://www.wowwiki.com/Shandris_Feathermoon

1) A picture of the character. Artwork or Ingame screenshot.

2) Gender

3) Race

4) The character class. Instead of the normal classes ingame it could also something like: Stormwind Guard or Sentinel Huntress.

5) Afflication: Who are there friends, where does the character feel homely?

6) Occupation: What does the character do next to slaying Kobolds?

7) Status: Alive, dead or something in between.

8) Relatives: This is the most intresting part I think. Maybe its possible to make subtabs for diffrent family members and their names. Like: mother, Sisters, Father, Surogate Mother?

I also personally think the template should be in a diffrent color then the normal white on this page. Perhaps something black, or brown like paper?

These are the things I would love to see in a character template. I'd love to hear your thoughts about them.

--Celegil

Hmm.. I agree with most of them, but not with Relatives. It's too extensive and I don't think it has a place in what is just a little rectangle with what should be bite-sized information. The rest I agree with. I'll make up a quick one. And I'd also add Titles to it.

I understand about the relatives, its a bit to many in a small template. The rest looks really nice I think. I shall copy it down later for Celegil's profile.

EDIT: I tried it out on Celegil's profile, looks really nice I think. Although there is one small thing. The lines of the diffrent chapters in the profile run through the template, is there any way that can be undone?

To anyone that reads all this discussion, this is now implemented with Template:Charbox. Chz. Tarianpip Tarian [T | C] 21:04, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

A more 'warm' theme?

I have been thinking..yet again. Why don't we give the Wiki a more warm-like colour? I think I already threw the Sporeggar wiki link a while back, but that is what I like to see. It is a bit of a book texture pasted across the wiki. Its a bit book-like and it would fit our wiki as well I think. The Argent Dawn Archives have a similar thing. Any thoughts and opinions and is it possible with the current Wiki code and layout we have? Celegil Moonwatcher 15:29, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Hmm.... I've had a similar discussion about it a while back with someone. I'm not sure if it is possible, really, as different people can choose different layouts and there is a limit in choice (Myself, I have the old monobook layout. I hate the new one.) But if we could change the default colour-scheme or theme, it would be nice... I'll inquire in to the subject. -- Admin Richeron [T | C] 16:04, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Well.... it's possible. But they point me to edit this completely empty .css page, and I have nooo idea what to do, so I risk making the wiki unusable if I do anything. I simply haven't a clue how to work it.

--Admin Richeron [T | C] 16:12, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Found some info on this. Have already changed the menu sidebar to what I want.

--Admin Richeron [T | C] 16:33, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Right. Soo... Go to your preferences and tick the little square that says "Let the Admin override my skin choice.". Then you shall see what my tweaking has made it look like. --Admin Richeron [T | C] 16:53, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I know a bit of CSS if that might help? Tarianpip Tarian [T | C] 17:15, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Hmm..blue is not really my definition of warm, but there is progress. Already much better then the very 'whitish' white colour. ;) -Celegil Moonwatcher 15:51, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

More Adding!

Hello! Me again, yes AGAIN! Ugh, I must be a horrible drag I know, but adding things to the Wiki got me a bit addicted so I spend a lot of time here. Anyway..a small matter. How about adding crests of the different factions to the Wiki. Like, not the Alliance crest for everyone, but a Night Elven one for example. Oh..and another thing. How about adding Lore supported factions to the Wiki. For example, A Dwarf that is part of Stormpike's Guard in his Wiki page, will be connected to a sub-main page where all the Wiki profiles with Stormpike's Guard are listed. Same works for Sentinels and other factions.

Is it possible? If you wish I can help out a bit by adding these pages, but I don't know how to link them. :)

Oh, and about the Location images that is earlier in the talk. I'll see if I can add a few images of various locations. Sadly, no active WoW Account at the moment, but I DO have a still working WoW Map- and Model Viewer! *cackles loudly* I'll see what I can do.

Community page

Hail all,

I have reordered the communities page Active Horde Guilds. They should now be alphabetic, ignoring 'The'. Lets hope its more clear. Im sure Riche will bash..uhm inform me if anything is as it should not be.

--DCDarkling 17:09, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

It looks great! Your help is greatly apreciated! Don't hesitate to help more often, and you may get yourself sysop rights (you get more options and stuff, including deleting pages and editing certain protected pages).

Recent attack on the Wiki

Hey there everyone,

Thanks for restoring my pages after that *bleep* guy Sonaar deleted a lot of it. I was really pissed when I heard about it and its a good thing he's banned. Anyway, what made me even MORE pissed was the fact that I too was banned! *rolls eyes* I was unable to post anything on the Wiki for 24 hours because it said the following: 'Autoblocked because user Sonaar recently used your IP'. The intended block was ID number 17 and did list my own IP.

Now, I find this highly unlikely. Firstly, I did a thorough security check on my computer and found nothing. Secondly, I don't have a wireless network and my computer was off at the time of the attack so it's impossible for anyone to use my IP (I have Windows logs to back this). But finally, the IP adress of the one that deleted the pages in the 84 and 81... while my own IP adress is in the 83... I tracked the IP of the geezer who did this and it turns out that he does indeed live in the same country, but about 100 kilometers away. I also investigated the block logs and it seems that for the last block, Richeron used the ID to block the user, and he blocked number 13 and 17. Number 17 is me however.

I really want this sorted out because it portrays me as one of the grievers while this is ABSOLUTELY NOT the case. Is this a joke or a bad mistake?

--Celegil Moonwatcher 11:43, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

It's...weird... I only blocked the user Sonaar and the IP 81.104.34.21... But...weird... Did you try to log on to your account? What do he numbers 13 and 17 represent anyway? I'm confused!

--Admin Richeron [T | C] 11:56, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

I was logged on on my account. And logging off gave the same problem. Can we talk about this on MSN? I added you to my contacts.

--Celegil Moonwatcher 11:58, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, this was odd. Reckon that bloke must really be bored. Oh, well, good riddance. Hope he'll find something more worthwhile IRL, because by the looks of this, he's a lonely soul.

--Elizabetha 10:10, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Ouch. The new animated front page image is horrible -- it's too big, the animation gives me a migraine and it damages usability by forcing people to scroll down to find what used to be right htere when the page loaded. Please return to banner style elements, I can make one if it's an issue. Auburn(SWC) 16:10, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Animation removed, tree reduced to a symbol and the title of the wiki added in text. The problem of visibility remains difficulted by the completely absurd presence of a permanent ad at the top of the page. How I loathe advertisements...

--Admin Richeron [T | C] 21:27, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Much better. :) Also, if ads are bothering you, I recommend Firefox and Adblock. Haven't seen an unsolicited ad in years. Auburn(SWC) 19:50, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I hate ads with a passion! And now I can block them from my sight! *Dance*

--Admin Richeron [T | C] 21:54, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Background

Could we get a backround perhaps? I don't want to seem irrelevant but it is rather dull. I like the "parchment" type found on Assassin's Creed wiki, but that's just me. >:3 Thanks. ¦3

If you're willing to learn CSS and do it yourself, sure, I'll let you add a background. Have fun. --Admin Richeron [T | C] 21:07, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

Whoops, too late. There's already one up. And I don't think it makes much diference, as most of the background is obscured anyway. --Admin Richeron [T | C] 21:48, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
