The Society of Arcanists is a group of Mages, based around the principle that arcane magic and knowledge should be accessible and beneficial to all. The Society offers a place to work and learn for Mages of all skill levels and experience, collects knowledge from around the world on matters of the arcane and offers magical services like enchanting and magical alchemy to those willing to offer support or monetary donation.
Background[edit | edit source]
Formed by Mallisyra Hawthorn, herself a talented student of the Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences, in Stormwind, The Society of Arcanists does not have a long or illustrious history as other magical organisations might do. Instead, it boasts high aspirations and an idealogy unseen in many such other schools. The members of the Society believe that knowledge of the Arcane should be collected and shared, not something to be hidden away in stuff libraries and accessible only to the most studious of scholars. While scholarly aptitude and intelligence are essential to gain membership to the Society and its School, an emphasis is put on practical
application and physical learning rather than theoretical study.
Members go on frequent expeditions to places of magical importance, attend lectures and lessons, and provide magical services to the wider community.
Recently bestowed new powers and responsibilities, the Society is officially considered as a Magical School by the Crown and Kingdom of Stormwind; the casual group of friends has evolved into a more structured and official Academy.
Notes[edit | edit source]
Current Status[edit | edit source]
Always Recruiting! Students are free to apply to Mallisya Hawthorn by letter or come down to the Tower to enroll as an Apprentice. Experienced Mages are also welcome to join as teachers or associates.
Posts for Head of Subject are also still open.
Recruitment & Testing[edit | edit source]
Becoming a member of the Society is quite simple; prospective members will contact Mallisyra herself, or arrive at the Tower to be recruited. The applicant will perform a simple task directed by whoever is conducting the 'interview,' or asked to cast a spell. If the Applicant does not know how to do either of these things, the interviewer will give them instruction; this is a test of aptitude and ability to learn more than anything, not a test of magical strength.
Applicants joining at Apprentice level will be issued with some basic equipment; a note or spell book and a simple wand.
The testing process for joining the Society as a Teacher or other instructor/not a student is more rigorous and may require some more indepth confirmation of the applicant's magical knowledge.
As an Apprentice, practical exams in subjects may be taken, along with the completion of tasks set by tutors. These may require specific magical knowledge or reagents found around the world.
